About This Role:
- Lead the development and effective execution of Newmont Africa’s external communications and social media strategies to enhance Newmont Africa’s brand reputation, promote external stakeholder engagement to enhance acceptance and support.
- Design, develop and oversee implementation of programmes relevant to these areas at a regional level consistent with relevant corporate guidance.
- Oversee the Ahafo North communications team to develop communications strategies, programmes and messaging which deliver business strategic priorities and objectives while enhancing the company brand and reputation.
- Work with the site Sustainability and External Relations (S&ER), and Communications teams, with a Regional to Site Shared service approach, to ensure consistent internal and external messaging and coordination of overall regional external communications strategy.
- Develop and manage relationships which promote partnerships and alliances that support the Company’s programmes and enhance the Company’s reputation in Africa and elsewhere.

In This Role:
Regional External Communications
- Provide expert support for the development and effective implementation of the regional external communication strategy, in support of Regional business objectives and priorities.
- Enhance Newmont Africa’s profile through the identification of story opportunities, persuasive writing, and strategic media positioning.
- Supervise and develop appropriate communications materials and key messaging on key business activities, change initiatives, operational performance, programmes and projects, and special events, for use on multiple communications channels/platforms, including social and digital channels.
- Design and implement the regional media relations strategy and supporting campaigns and programmes and develop weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the Director, Communications & External Relations and Vice President, Sustainability & External ‘relations with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Act as company spokesperson and lead media contact person for the Ahafo North Project.
- Identify thought leadership opportunities, and position Newmont Africa and its Regional leadership team as leaders on key platforms for reputation enhancement.
- Support the development of executive communications for all platforms and engagements with various stakeholders, including the development of fact sheets, speaking notes, speeches, and presentations.
Social Media Management
- Oversee the company’s online presence through supervising the management and development of social media and content strategies, integrating organic and paid strategies, for Newmont Africa’s social media channels, for brand and reputation enhancement.
- Develop key relationships with influencers across social media platforms, manage and facilitate social media communities by responding to social media posts and developing discussions.
- Undertake audience research and monitor, track, analyse and report on performance on social media platforms using tools such as Google Analytics and Facebook Insight.
Employee Communications
- Develop and implement an employee communications and engagement strategy that supports business objectives and priorities, key organisational initiatives, and change management.
- Provide professional communications support to business functions, projects, and change agents.
- Leverage communications tools to drive employee understanding, performance, and alignment to business goals.
- Provide communications support with entrenching the Newmont values and ensuring compliance with the Code of Conduct.
- Develop a strategy for effectively communicating with employees and receiving feedback, while preventing information overload.
Project Communications
- Oversee the development and execution of the Ahafo North Project’s strategic communications plan that support stakeholder engagement and realization of the project priorities and objectives.
- Provide communications support to the Ahafo North leadership team and help to implement recommendations made by communications consultants.
- Build a media coalition and provide them with regular approved relevant factual information about the Ahafo North Project, and other growth projects, and its potential benefits to the local communities, as well as the national economy.
- Monitor all communication channels for information on the Ahafo North, and other growth projects, and develop appropriate responses to issues raised by NGOs, youth groups, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Develop speaking notes and fact sheets on the Ahafo North Project, and other growth projects, for all external facing officers of Newmont Africa, to be used during stakeholder engagements.
Training, Skills and Experience
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
- Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, English or a related degree.
Experience:
- 10 – 15 years’ work experience in Public Relations, Communications, Media Relations, or Journalism preferably in an extractive industry or multinational firm and at managerial level.
Technical Skills:

The salary range offered for this role is $. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
