JOB DESCRIPTION:
Oversee and direct construction projects from conception to completion. Review the project in-depth to schedule deliverables and estimate cost.
Responsibilities –
• Plan and coordinate a project from start to finish, including organizing the schedule of work, costings and budget.
• Manage the construction site on a day-to-day basis, including supervising the labor force, monitoring subcontractors, checking materials, inspecting work and overseeing quality control.
• Ensure the project is delivered on time and on budget by setting benchmarks, agreeing budgets and monitoring progress.
• Check design documents with Architects, Surveyors and Engineers.
• Promote and maintain health and safety, including site inspections to ensure safety rules are being followed.
• Prepare internal and external reports pertaining to job status.
• Plan ahead to prevent problems, and resolve any unexpected problems that may occur during the project.
• Ensure quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques.
• Ensure permits and licenses are obtained.
• Maintain regular communication and attend meetings with clients and their representatives to inform them of progress on the project, i.e. stakeholder management.
• Check design documents with Architects, Surveyors and Engineers.
• Prepare internal and external reports pertaining to job status.
• Coodinate and direct construction workers and sub-contractors.
• Analyse, manage and mitigate risks.
• Ensure quality construction standards and the use of proper
constructor techniques
Knowledge & Skills Requirements
• Understanding of all facets of the construction process.
• Familiarity with construction management software packages
• Strong communication skills – for liaising with a wide range of clients, professionals and workers on site.
• Leadership skills and an ability to motivate with team members to ensure a high standard of work.
• Resilience and problem-solving skills – in order to overcome unexpected challenges during the construction process.
• Strong attention to detail for conducting site inspections and managing complex contracts.
• Excellent time and project management skills
• Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards.
• Ability to plan and see the “big picture”
• Competent in conflict and crisis management
Educational Qualification and Experience –
• Masters degree in construction management or related field, architecture or engineering.
• Proven 10 – 15 years working experience in construction
