Introduction to the role
As a Regional Director for West Africa within Zutari, you will be responsible for overseeing and leading all operations, projects, and business development activities within the designated region. You will play a critical role in driving growth, managing client relationships, and ensuring the successful execution of engineering projects. This position requires a strong technical background, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to navigate complex business environments
Role Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Planning:
- Provide strategic direction and vision for the West Africa region, aligning it with the overall goals and objectives of the consulting engineering firm.
- Develop and implement business strategies to drive growth, expand market presence, and increase revenue.
- Lead and motivate a diverse team of engineers, project managers, and support staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work culture.
Business Development:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the West Africa region, including government contracts, private sector partnerships, and international projects.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners, promoting the firm’s services and capabilities.
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, client needs, and competitive landscape, and use the insights to shape business development strategies.
Project Management:
- Oversee the successful execution of engineering projects within the region, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
- Collaborate with project teams to define project scope, deliverables, and key performance indicators, and monitor progress throughout the project lifecycle.
- Implement effective project management methodologies and tools, ensuring efficient resource allocation and risk mitigation.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the regional budget, closely monitoring financial performance and ensuring profitability targets are met.
- Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to provide accurate insights on the region’s financial health and performance.
- Identify cost optimization measures and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, industry standards, and company policies across all projects and operations.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks and challenges, implementing appropriate risk management strategies.
- Foster a culture of safety, ethics, and integrity within the region, promoting best practices and ensuring the well-being of employees and stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Business Science degree (MBA) will be an advantage
- Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in consulting engineering, with a focus on infrastructure projects in West Africa.
- Proven track record in business development, including securing new projects and expanding client relationships.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
- Sound understanding of project management methodologies and practices.
- Demonstrated financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
- Knowledge of local regulations, standards, and practices in West Africa.
- Ability to navigate complex business environments and cultural nuances.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other local languages is advantageous.
- Willingness to travel within the region and occasionally internationally.
